I am currently working on a race car project and I have removed the airbags from the car. I am trying to find where I can take them to be disposed of and who I need to contact?

I am having limited success so far so I was wondering if you could shed some light on the topic?

It's a very good question and as far as I am aware there is no set procedure for this scenario.

The AA is firmly against second hand airbags being made available to purchase from wreckers, so let's discount the option of handing them in there.

I suggest you approach the local franchise for the car you are converting. They may take the airbags and deploy them in a safe environment with a specific service tool. Failing that an auto electrician may do the same.

The other option is to approach the local technical polytechnic and ask if they might be interested in taking them. They are often desperate for such equipment and will deploy the airbags as part of a training exercise.

In the meantime be very careful where you store the airbags and how they are handled.
