I had my 97 Audi A3 in for repairs for a faulty dash. The garage have installed a second hand dash assembly, but the odometer is now reading 50,000km less then when the car went in for the repair.

They are now refusing to correct this and state that we need to live with it. This is not helpful as we were looking at selling the car as soon as possible. The repair took the garage fifteen months to complete.

It is illegal to have a wound back odometer which is essentially what you now have in the Audi.

The odometer should be reset back to the original reading.

There is a company in Auckland which has been around for many years who specialise in such work. They do have a very strict code of practice in place to ensure the odometer reading is changed for the correct reasons and will not carry out any work without doing the appropriate checks first.

There is a reasonable cost involved to carry out this work. A quick phone call to them suggested around the $600 mark to make the correction but don't hold me or them to that exact figure.

It would appear you are not the first Audi owner to suffer from dash related problems.
