Is it safe to use Valvoline fully synthetic SAE 5W-40 in our 2007 Ford Focus 2.0L for an 80K oil (& filter) change? (oil was purchased for a different vehicle but not used)

The service handbook specifies SAE 5W-30 but the last service used SAE 15W-40 according to the windscreen sticker. (The car was assembled in Germany so I'm guessing the specs are based on Northern Hemisphere guidelines?)

This will be the first time I have changed the oil & filter myself.

The 15W40 oil grade should be fine, it will cover both cold starting and hot operating temperatures and It has also been used for your previous service. I do however recommend you use a genuine oil filter and dispose of the old oil in the correct manner.
