I have a Mitsi Galant GLXi 1995. The problem is the reverse gear will not engage and when in drive with overdrive on at about 80kph the drive disengages. Taking OD off regains drive. On the console when in N the N and D light is illuminated (only since problem).
Not sure what the fault is could this be electronic which is what I am hoping for?
History of the car is that 6,000kms previous it had the Torque converter replaced by local garage. Related to that or not do you think?

If there was a fault with one of the electrical pressure solenoids you would normally still get the vehicle into reverse. From your explanation of the problem it would seem like a mechanical fault inside the gearbox. These are normally expensive to repair/overhaul and could cost around $2500 and up.

Was hoping something simple looks like you confirmed what I thought. Have been toying around with htis for the lat year qoutes I have had are $1500-$2500 for a specialist to look at it. Assuming I take it off my self.

Next question is do you know where I can locate a manual to make life bit easier when doing this job myself (removal of gearbox)?

Also is it worth it in your opinion, another one those decisions though to make.

The car is only worth around $2,500 in running condition so I would have to say it's not worth spending so much money to repair this vehicle.
