I have a 1995/6 Toyota Caldina automatic 2.0 Stationwagon (last of the old shape)

Can you tell me what the 2 switches next to the handbrake do? One is marked "ECT PWR" & the other "ECT MANU"

The switches provide options for the transmission performance.

The ECT PWR allows the change points in the transmission to alter, providing a sportier shift pattern. It will hold in some gears longer before changing, much like you might do with a manual transmission.

The ECT MANU is to reduce wheel spin when starting in snow or ice. The transmission will start in second gear.

When both switches are off, the transmission is in a mode which should provide the best all round vehicle drivability and economy.
