We have a 1996 Honda Civic which we get serviced 6 monthly by Devonport AA (always great service!).

The cambelt was replaced in 2002 at 56,000km and we guess it is due for another replacement (now at 96,000km). We understand that AA centres do not check/replace cambelts, do they recommend somebody?

Also, what approx cost will we be looking at for such a job?

Thank you

Yes the cambelt is due to be replaced based on time (5 years since it was last done). The AA Auto Service & Repair site at Devonport should be able to do this job.

Give them a call (09 445 9732) and ask for an estimate inclusive of all parts and labour. Don't be surprised if they suggest the water pump should be replaced also.

This is good workshop practice in our view as the water pump is operated by the cambelt and it is best they are changed as a unit.

Costs can vary depending on engine type and auxiliary components fitted it's probably best firmed up with the mechanic before the job commences.
