My 2004 odyssey has one hid light that doesn't work. I have been to a couple of auto electric shops and they both said I would need to buy a complete hid set consisting of lamps, controls and ballast both sides. It also means taking the bumper off to get to the control. Do you know if the individual components can be tested in place to work out what the problem is. A complete set including install is about $600. I brought the car Christmas last year and had to replace both lamps then. Have you any suggestions to solve this issue?
Thanks Todd Thomas

Hi there, these systems run on a very high voltage and are tricky to test. Once the lamp is out, the electricians can check the HID control unit power supply and connections.
The location of the unit make it hard to test in place. Most likely the control unit is faulting and causing the bulbs to blow prematurely.
The reason for replacing both sides is to make sure they are a matched pair, as wof regulations state they must be the same colour and brightness.
$600 is quite a reasonable price.
