My 1997 Audi A4 seems to have the electronic engine immobiliser activated when I put the key in.ie. the warning light flashes and the car starts then appears to turn off.The light is steady when the key is first put in then it flashes. It sometimes starts if the light is steady and then it runs ok.But today it won't go at all.Any suggestions on how to fix this regards Dave

I suspect there are no quick fixes.

Apart from a check of the basics the car will need to be connected to a electronic scanner to check the on-board management system for faults.

These scanners can, in most cases, draw out any fault codes they may be held in the main computers memory to help identify the cause of the problem. Most garages have these tools as part of their kit these days.

Expect a hook-up charge for this initial diagnosis and I'm sure most repairers would prefer the car taken to their workshop to carry out the checks.

Worth a call to the roadservice team if your an AA member. They can do the basic checks, organise a tow if required and recommend an appropriate repairer.
