Mine is an automatic driven car. Lately when i started it and drove away, the ignition went off when stopped and shifted to neutral whilst waiting to turn into the major road from a minor road. Such problem did not happen when the gear rod remained at "D" position and when the enigne became warmed after running for a while. Why was that? Thanks.

As an aside to the cars problems you should leave the gear selector in the ‘D’ position once you get started and don’t move into neutral when waiting at intersections etc.

You don’t mention the make and age of your vehicle so it’s hard to even suggest what may be wrong. I would suspect a problem with the fast idle or choke system however.

This model Honda has a fast idle valve attached to the side of the throttle body which allows air to bleed into the intake manifold when cold to raise the engine revs. As the engine warms up the air bleed is slowly closed off and the engine management system reverts to a ‘normal’ condition.

It’s not unusual for this valve to jam in the closed position due to a build up of carbon. If you are mechanically minded it’s not a big job to check the valve otherwise the car will need to go into your local garage.

I could be well off the mark but it’s definitely worth taking a look in this area.
