Hi,
Thoughts on a 2.5L 2006 outback? Has 125,000km, ~$8800 all up, timing belt done at 95,000km. This model fine to run on 91?

thanks!

Hi there,
Subaru's are great, but the 2.5 needs a bit of looking after with regards to the cooling systems/ radiator and heater core. They can block up and the engine head gaskets don't like to be overheated. So it's a good idea to check the cooling system is in good order and has been well maintained. Redbook lists 91 octane fuel can be used.

Thanks. Is this something you would have done as part of regular maintenance going forward? Assume mechanic doing pre-purchase could detect poor prior maintenance? Still ok for towing medium sized (less than 1t) loads?
Cheers.

On Subaru's large services are due every 50k coolant flush, transmissions, brake fluid air filter etc. So if this is not carried out, things can suffer. A PPI would state if the antifreeze looked to be in poor condition, but a workshop carrying out a service would look more in depth and make recommendations on what to replace and when. Towing small loads should be fine if the vehicle is in good overall condition.
