OK, so I said I'd post the results of my fuel test (Caltex vs BP) regardless of the outcome. Since I had Caltex in the tank, I first went with Caltex fuel, but ran it for 3 weeks not 2 since the first week was partly school holidays. I then switched to BP for 3 weeks. I was out of town for a couple of weeks as well hence the delay...

Here are the results:

Caltex:
Tank 1: 16.82l for 367.40km = 4.578 l/100km
Tank 2: 16.82l for 364.00km = 4.621 l/100km
Tank 3: 16.71l for 354.10km = 4.719 l/100km
Caltex overall: 50.35l for 1085.50km = 4.638 l/100km

BP:
Tank 1: 16.65l for 344.70km = 4.830 l/100km
Tank 2: 17.77l for 374.40km = 4.746 l/100km
Tank 3: 16.82l for 356.30km = 4.721 l/100km
BP Overall: 51.24l for 1075.40km = 4.765 l/100km

As I said, I use the bike to commute from Porirua to Wellington every day, around 45km return, the route never varies, just the traffic density, but that is uniformly random.

So I have to concede that there is no appreciable difference between the fuels.

Appreciate the feedback and the detailed and clear way you have listed the results.

Appreciate your test and result.

I have similar experience and prefer Shell rather than BP.
