Could you please tell me how to correctly use the over drive OFF and ON options in the car?

I'm assuming you are refering to the type of overdrive that was popular of Japanese cars in the 90's? The most economical way to operate these systems is to run them in the ON position. This is especially so on open roads, where you will notice the engine revs drop at open road speeds, improving fuel economy.
If it's on a 4x4 type vehicle, you may want to switch it off if you are doing any off-roading, but that's another story.
