Hello

I have purchased my car, celica ss2 2000 for 1yr 4months now. I have always had this problem around 4th gear(manual transmision). since the first day i have purchased the car. However i didnt that it was a problem because it was my first manual car, and later on i asked a friend, who knows about cars and he said that it has no problem to it. However, now i think that it is a synchro problem.

So i am not sure that after i got the problem confirmed from a toyota dealer that it is a syncro problem, whether i can take the car back to the dealer where i bought it from since it is after the warentee date but the problem occured from the very start, i just didnt know it

Regards
Peter

Vehicles purchased from a Registered Motor Vehicle Trader (Dealer) are covered under the Consumer Guarantees Act and in theory have no clear finish time after purchase. In a nut shell cars sold by a RMVT must be fit for purpose.

If you had taken the car back within a couple of weeks of purchase your concerns should have been dealt with immediately and highly likely without any cost or inconvenience to yourself.

The Dealer concerned may feel you had the opportunity to bring your concerns to their attention a lot earlier than this and decline to do anything about repairing the transmission synchromesh problems.

Your first step should be to make contact with the Dealer to discuss your concerns and to test the water on whether they may be prepared to at least contribute towards a repair. This sort of compromise may be your best hope of a suitable resolution.

It would have been far better to seek advice from the Toyota dealer straight after purchase if you felt there was a transmission problem.

Your other option is to contact the Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal and seek their opinion. Their number is 0800 367 6838.
