Hi
I'm buying a new trailer on trademe but it's not warranted or registered. If I tow it to my home town to get a WOF (this would be on the motorway) could I get a ticket?

Hi there,
You could get a ticket as it is illegal to operate an unlicensed vehicle on the road, but...
Follow this link: http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2011/0079/latest/DLM2938433.html
The Land Transport Legislation states, In proceedings for an offence against subclause (1) or (2) that relates to an unlicensed motor vehicle, it is a defence if the defendant proves that—
(a)
the motor vehicle was operated on a road only while being taken directly to a place of repair or inspection for the purpose of repair or obtaining evidence of vehicle inspection;

Does AA do wof's on trailers?

Anon

Yes, our Inspection centres, Auto centres and most Approved repairers that issue WoFs can do trailers. http://locations.aa.co.nz/search/trailer-wof

So why would this clown say you don't?

Hi John,

Unfortunately, we do not conduct inspections on trailers. I would advise speaking with a trailer shop or possibly a welder/joiner in the area for further assistance.

Thanks,

Hi John,
Andrew is part of the AA (Pre Purchase) Vehicle Inspections team and this is what he would have been referring to. A WoF inspection is obviously different and so are the channels of enquiry- it would be best to speak directly with a centre you want to carryout the wof service, as found in the previous link.

The email he replied to was sent to online@aa.co.nz and specifically asked whether AA Rotorua could issue a wof/rego on a new trailer that I was considering buying from a firm in Rotorua who doesn't do this on trailers that they sell. Andrew obviously didn't read the email properly.
