I was wondering if you could tell me if I would need to get a Low Volume Vehicle (LVV) certification for my car.

It has a 4 point half roll cage protection welded in.

The Warrant of Fitness Vehicle Inspection Requirement Manual (VIRM) states the following;

LVV certification is not required provided that:

1) Each seating position is fitted with an effective head restraint, and

2) The bars are positioned:
a. Behind, in a plane extending upward, parallel to the back of the backrest on the rear-most seat, and
b. In such a way that the head restraint would provide protection from head contact with any bar section during a crash

It can at times come down to an inspectors interpretations of the rules. For example what is an effective head restraint and would it provide protection from head contact etc.

My best advice is to visit a vehicle testing station and ask their opinion once they have looked at the roll cage.

I suggest a testing station rather than a general garage as the smaller authorities do not deal with such matters on a regular basis from my experience.
