My car was issued with a new Warrant of Fitness last month. When I checked the car details on a Vehicle History web site I realised the shop that did the warrant entered the wrong odometer reading.

What can I do about this?

So long as the vehicle is not Diesel powered this is not normally an issue. Web sites like AA Vehicle History Reports show WoF inspection mileage histories and singular odometer anomalies are normally identified as inspector error etc.

The biggest problem arises when the vehicle is Diesel as Road User Charges are based on WOF/COF inspection records and the Transport Registry Centre have a automated program that identifies vehicles with less RUCs paid for than the mileage recorded at the time of last inspection.

This then generates a (unfriendly) reminder letter to the owner reminding them of their legal obligation to purchase sufficient RUCs for said vehicle.

If you are concerned about the mileage recorded, you need to approach the authority that issued the last warrant. They must then write a letter to the Transport Registry Centre (attention inspections) explaining the reason for their mistake. They will also need to include a copy of their check-sheet showing the mileage recorded at time of inspection.

It is then over to the good nature of the team at TRC to correct the odometer reading or not.
