I just bought a 2004 car from a car dealer and I have discovered there is no spare tyre.

Do they legally have to provide one of these?

You don't say what type of car it is that you have purchased.

The reason I make this point is that some cars do not have spare tyres these days. Some modern vehicles have run-flat tyres which can continue to be driven in the event of a puncture.

Others have a tyre inflation device carried in the boot, which needs to be used in the event of a puncture.

However, if your car does not fall into either of these categories, it would be expected for the vehicle to be sold with a spare tyre.

If this is the case, I suggest that you discuss the matter with the dealer, who will most likely oblige by supplying you a spare.

In the unlikely event that the dealer is not prepared to help, I believe you may have protection under the Consumer Guarantees Act, in that a product sold to a private buyer must be fit for the intended purpose.
