I was wondering if it was possible and how expensive it would be to register an Australian car in NZ?

Yes its possible, but the first priority is find out if the vehicle meets the necessary criteria. This will depend on vehicle type, age and compliance to rules such as frontal impact and emissions standards.

All used vehicles entering the fleet must also undergo a roadworthiness inspection. If we were to assume your vehicle did meet the necessary standards then allow around $1000 for total compliancing costs. Shipping and customs costs are all additional.
