Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe 2017 car review

Stylish, sleek, sporty, yet comfortable – this top spec E400 has it all! It leaves nothing to chance and Mercedes have designed this vehicle to be an icon of style. It has a striking, sporty front design, purist side design and an athletic-muscular rear, making its proportions perfect from every angle.

The Multibeam LED headlights, large light-alloy wheels, chrome and aluminium design elements and sparkly crystal-like tail lamps are extremely eye catching. While there are only two seats in the back of the vehicle, there’s no need to cram in like sardines. The seats are separated by cup holders and there’s plenty of room to stretch out, relax and enjoy the journey – or Gran Turismo if you wish.

The sporty and elegant design reveals a fine sensitivity for details and painstakingly careful workmanship that will impress all occupants inside this car. The interior appointments have a high quality appeal – a so-called wrap-around effect provides a unique feeling of ease and comfort. Another fascinating highlight is the widescreen cockpit, which consists of two 12.3 inch displays and touch control buttons on the steering wheel, opening up a fascinating digital world. The cool factor has stepped up a notch with the unique functionality of the turbine-look ventilation nozzles. As part of the Air Balance package, a diffuser tucked away inside the glove compartment emits a nice aroma inside the vehicle.

The twin-turbo V6 engine is not quite the hungry beast that one would associate when looking at the kW figures and it even has an eco-side too. Aided by the start-stop function, the eco display in the instrument cluster supports the driver with a lot of useful data to help improve efficiency and to help get the vehicle even further on one tank.

Intelligent Drive – the road to accident-free driving

What started with PRE-SAFE® more than ten years ago and continued with DISTRONIC Distance Pilot, has now been advanced to a new dimension in driving. Thanks to Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive, comfort and safety have now been fused (their safety experts called this ‘sensor fusion’) and the intelligent assistance systems can analyse complex situations and recognise potential traffic dangers by using better positioned sensors all around the vehicle.

There can be only one!

The Edition1 E400 that we test drove was super quiet and produced a smooth ride. This was all thanks to the agility control and agility select suspension with selective damping system, height adjustment and driving programs. For those who aren’t familiar with Mercedes-Benz, Edition1 is a limited introduction package available on selected models at the time of launch. If you want to pay an extra $2,420 for the E400, you’ll get a car that features a matte-finish paint job, Edition1 badging, plus a few other fruity add ons.
