Hyundai Tucson 2015 car review

Hyundai’s all-new Tucson SUV represents a major step forward for the brand, with advances in driving dynamics, safety, technology and comfort. It continues the ground-breaking work of the company’s recent vehicle designs and is the company’s flagship offering in the hotly-contested medium SUV market segment.

The sleek, sporty Tucson features a bold new design, backed by an advanced range of engines, transmissions, class-leading driving dynamics, high standard equipment specifications and levels of overall refinement. Styling of the new model range creates a fresh look that blends flowing surfaces, bold proportions and honed character lines, while retaining essential Hyundai design cues.

From the side, upswept ‘character’ lines and asymmetric wheel arches filled with new-design 17-19 inch alloy wheels, accentuate the Tucson’s longer wheelbase and more dynamic stance. The rear design is clean and uncomplicated with horizontal lines leading from the rear wheel arches and accentuated by slim LED tail-lights.

The Tucson range offers a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with GDI and turbo-charged petrol or diesel engines. Featuring a 6-speed auto and 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) with manual transmissions available on special order.

Comfort and safety that can take you anywhere

The Tucson boasts a very comprehensive safety technology package and a host of active safety features, including Vehicle Stability Management, Advanced Traction Control, and autonomous braking. The Tucson is very comfortable driving on and off-road, with the front-wheel drive model surprisingly more than able to negotiate loose surface climbing.

An Apple a day…

The Tucson is the first vehicle on the New Zealand market to offer Apple’s advanced CarPlay connectivity. CarPlay seamlessly interacts with the vehicle’s audio/visual systems, transforming the vehicle’s touchscreen into a controller for the phone, giving access to calls, messages, GPS navigation, music and more. Google’s Android Auto will be available in early 2016 for those Android phone users.

Intuitive, sophisticated, user-friendly interior

Inside, the Tucson offers customers an intuitive, sophisticated, user-friendly interior. New soft-touch, high-quality materials are used on all cabin surfaces. Interior room is enhanced, with the Tucson matching or exceeding its medium SUV competitors in all key dimensions with generous leg, shoulder, hip and headroom. Interior comfort is also maximized by very low engine/drivetrain sound entering the cabin.

The Tucson is a welcome addition to the popular medium SUV segment, and fits into Hyundai’s range of family wagons just below the Santa Fe. Bringing even more to the table it’s longer, higher, and wider than the outgoing ix35, that it replaces.

The range starts from $42,990 for the entry level 2.0Ltr GDI petrol 2wd 6-speed auto. 1.6 Turbo petrol 7-speed DCT automatic starts from $47,990, leading up to $63,990 for the range-topping 2.0R CRDI Elite Ltd 6-speed auto.
