AA Driving School expands to Queenstown and welcomes long-time educator as Instructor

The AA Driving School is thrilled to expand its network to a new corner of the country with the reintroduction of an Instructor to Queenstown.

After recently relocating to the town, Driving Instructor Daniel Sutherland will hit the roads this month ready to offer lessons to learner drivers or any driver that feels the need for a refresh or skills check.

AA Driving School General Manager Roger Venn says it’s been several years since the AA Driving School has had an Instructor in Queenstown and expanding to the area is a real milestone.

“We are always striving to increase our network to offer quality and trusted AA Driver Training to all drivers throughout New Zealand.”

Daniel has a long history of education, so far spending 4 years in driver training and 10 years prior as a primary school teacher.

He says, “I first started teaching people to drive when I lived in Taupō where I operated the Taupō Driving School. In that time I was able to work with drivers from a diverse age range and all levels of ability.

“I’ve very much enjoyed teaching my whole life. The skills I built up during my time teaching in the school classroom proved very transferable, making for a smooth transition into the car.

“Getting a driver’s licence is a significant moment in a young person’s life and seeing the progression of students from one level and advancing to another is great to see. That’s been the biggest highlight for me as their teacher.”

Daniel has also been a driving coach for New Zealand’s Street Smart programme and run Defensive Driving courses.

Roger says, “Previous testimonies from Daniel’s students have described him as ‘patient and clear’ as well as ‘going above and beyond what was expected’ and made them feel safe. We are very pleased to have Daniel bringing his expertise to the AA Driving School.”

Daniel will deliver driving lessons to the wider Queenstown area including Wānaka, Cromwell and Alexandra operating as the Queenstown Driving School under the AA Driving School. He teaches automatic, however can teach manual if the student provides their own car.
