I have just purchased a 2003 Mazda Atenza. I was told by the dealer and by others that the navigation system can be converted to the NZ system, however I have googled this and been unable to find out how or by whom.

Is this true or an urban myth?

Mazda New Zealand do not currently offer a navigation program suitable for New Zealand, so if the system is a factory Mazda Japan unit, it will not be able to be converted at this time.

It's a common question, but we have yet to hear of any repairers/electronics technicians successful in converting the Japanese navigation systems for use in New Zealand.

If you want a navigation system we can recommend an excellent portable navigation unit from TomTom called the Go720.

Probably not the answer you were hoping for, but I hope it is of some help.
