Was looking to buy a Nissan wingroad 1800 cc 2000occ Aero model versus Subaru Legacy Wagon.
Year 2000 to 2003.
Which is better?

The vehicles are poles apart as far as appeal goes. The Wingroad is a very basic plain-jane sort of car while the Subaru has more going for it in terms of performance and drivability.

The up-side of the Nissan is its overall running costs will be potentially a lot lower than the Subaru. Fuel consumption for example would be a lot more with the Legacy due to their All Wheel Drive system and better performance.

An awful lot depends on the vehicles age/mileage and past service history to be honest. It seems the older Subaru’s get, the bigger the risk. As an example, cooling systems in poor condition are a minefield of potential future problems and expensive repairs.

The Wingroad would also run on the 91 octane fuel while the Subaru would need the more expensive 95 octane.

People who drive or like Subaru Legacy’s wouldn’t normally drive or be interested a Nissan Wingroad from my experience..

If the vehicle is to be used for towing, then the Subaru would be a better bet. If however, it was simply an A to B vehicle you were looking for then the Nissan may be a better lower risk option.

This isn't really a reply, more of another question wrt a legacy, I am looking at a GTB E-Tune that was imported by a company called Vostok, they are in Ellerslie.

It is a really nice looking car, it is a 2002, just under 100k done on it, I have asked Vostok if the Cam belt has been done as I know that will cost around 1k with the DOHC setup, still awaiting a reply, they are asking for 11,950. What is your take on this model? and have you heard of "Vostok"? if so how do you rate the company? and is that a decent price?

If you are keen on this vehicle you may want to allow for an alarm/immobiliser to be fitted if it doesn’t already have one. Apart from anything else the risks of having it stolen would be pretty high. Pay to check the insurance costs as well.

The potential for high running costs are also very high. This engine runs twin turbo’s and were never built for Mums and Dads for slow Sunday drives. It’s a performance vehicle so be prepared to spend as required. And who knows how previous owners have treated it.

If you’re not a real petrol head then there are better low risk vehicles in this price range. If you like the Subaru brand, then look for something a little less aggressive.

Very hard to comment on prices for these sorts of vehicles. Suggest you compare prices on Trademe or similar.

Or you can purchase a AA Vehicle Valuation report.
