Hi there,

I'm looking at a mint condition 2009 Mazda CX-7 with very low mileage. When I drove it I noticed a slight rattle in the engine on acceleration. I called the dealership and they said it could possibly be a stretched timing chain which is common in those models.

Not being a car expert, is this such a common problem that I should stay away from these models or is the CX-7 generally a reliable car? Is there anyway to tell for sure if the chain is stretched or is this start up rattle common in all these models? Current mileage on the vehicle is 40k.

Thanks in advance
Ross

Hello Ross,

We haven't herd of too many issues with this model,
The noises you're hearing could be attributed to a myriad of issues, the best way to investigate the noises further would be to have the vehicle undergo a mechanical inspection to narrow down the cause.

Hi Ian

Thanks for the quick response. Are you aware of any common issues regarding the stretching of the timing chain?

Cheers
