Hi there,

I'm currently looking for a new car, medium sized station wagon/hatchback. I've found a 1996 Suzuki Cultus, 1.8L that's done around 160,000kms for $3000

Could you please advise in regards to fuel economy and reliability?

Thanks

Suzuki has made giant strides in recent years and their vehicles have picked up many awards in recent times. The ever popular Swift for example is currently leading the new cars sales figures for an individual model this calendar year.

It’s been a work in progress over many years however with every new model being clearly better than its predecessor in every way. Build quality, performance, fuel economy and safety have all made huge gains over the years which has enabled the brand to gain acceptance as a true contender in global motor vehicle production.

With the Cutlus you are looking at the early days where all of the above mentioned items were pretty average to say the least. Safety would be one definite weakness even in comparison to other mainstream Japanese vehicles of a similar age.

You don’t get much for 3K but you still need to be careful. A proven service history always provides good peace of mind if you are willing and prepared to overlook the safety aspects.
