Hi, I have been advised that the rocker cover gasket in our Toyota Avensis Verso 2004 is leaking and should be replaced "soon". How much should one expect to pay for this and what are the risks of not replacing it? Thank you.

Rocker cover gaskets can be priced from $100 upwards to replace, but generally are not too expensive.
Because the cover is located on the top of the engine and the oil inside is not under pressure, it is simply an annoying weepy oily mess that travels down all over the engine and eventually onto the ground. The risk is more a nuisance of stains and burning smell when the engine is hot.
