I have a Subaru WRX 2009. Recently, whilst the car was serviced the garage pointed out that the nearside spotlight lens was cracked. They said a) it wouldn't pass a WOF in that state and b) the entire light unit would need to be replaced for $550 as Subaru only provided an entire replacement unit.
I don't want to spend $550 on this so what are my options? 1) Will it fail the WOF as is? 2) Are there any other repair options 3) It wouldn't concern me if I never used the spots again so can I remove them; disconnect them etc etc. Thanks

I would get the testing station to check this out.I had a vehicle with a cracked fog light that was covered with cellotape and that passed everytime. It was however 7 years ago so the rules may have changed.

Hi there,
The wof rules state it's a fail if...
Condition (Note 3)
5. A lamp is insecure or contains moisture in the form of large droplets, runs or puddles .
6. A lens is missing, or has a hole, crack or other damage that allows moisture or dirt to enter.
7. A reflector is damaged or has deteriorated so that light output is reduced.
8. A fog lamp warning device, if fitted, is obscured from the driver’s vision.
You can remove both fog lamps, or a new addition to the rule is that they can be disabled so it does not emit a light (see below).
Note 5
A forward-facing permitted lamp that does not comply with the equipment, condition and performance requirements must be made to comply, be removed from the vehicle, or be disabled so that it does not emit a light.
