I drive a Japanese import - a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. I would like to know what the GVM, GCM and manufacturer's tare/kerb weights are. I realize I can go to a weight bridge to get my current kerb weight. It's around 1800kg without anything in it and no driver. All good with that. I looked around the vehicle for the weight plate, but I can only find a plate with the model, engine, trans axle & color stamped on it. There's no space for weights. I called MMNZ and they told me that they can only quote NZ vehicles and they have no data for Japanese imports. Carjam shows 2,085kg for GVM, but that seems to be a number pulled out of thin air, as that would only allow for 3.5 occupants at 80kg weight and no luggage at all. A dealer selling an identical model manufactured a month earlier told me that kerb weight is 1810kg and GVM is 2310kg, which seems more plausible. Now, with overloading being a potential issue at a potential claim time, I would actually like to know the real manufacturer's Tare, GVM and GCM numbers. Is there a reliable source of that available in NZ?
Hi there,
As the vehicle is a Japanese Domestic import, there is generally no information available, however I have found the following for the import 2013 Outlander PHEV.
Gross Vehicle Mass 2075kg
Payload 285kg
Kerb Weight 1790kg
Height 1680mm
Length 4655mm
Width 1800mm
Track Front 1540mm
Track Rear 1540mm
Towing Not Braked 750
Towing Braked 750
Thank you for your answer. My point is that there doesn't seem to be a central, trustworth and reliable source of these numbers for Japanese imports at least. So far, everyone I asked gave me different numbers. What do the insurers use?
Hi there,
As outlined before, Japanese domestic imports vary in spec and have many options when compared to the three or so NZ models of the same vehicles picked by NZ distributors. There is no real way of obtaining this information as you are dealing with Japanese market vehicles, you just need to search around and see what you can find. As the dealers are not help as they are not interested in imports they didn't bring here. We subscribe to a Redbook vehicle information and value site, and I assume insurance companies use similar subscriptions. Some specs for Japanese imports are there, some we have to use NZ new similar vehicles as an indication.
Thank you for shedding the light on this for me. I do appreciate it.
