My Toyota Hiace is an import and I am first owner since purchase early January 2017.
Vehicle was complied with first WOF in October 2016 and has had subsequent WOF with no issues up until the last check November 2019 where failed due to headlight incorrect pattern.
I have had to spend a lot of money to replace both headlights in order to get WOF.
My question is how can this have been complied by NZTA with this issue and what recourse do I have for my costs? Thanks

Hi there,
Headlights can degrade over time (both lenses and reflectors), and also wof rules can change or receive amendments. It would depend on what the exact issue is that is giving them an incorrect pattern and if it has been like that since compliance and last wof (bare in mind it's now been 3+ years since compliance).
Unless you were the one who booked and paid for compliance, you have no recourse with them- but you might need to speak with the selling dealer after you have clarification on what exactly went wrong with the lights.
