i am surprised to find that my 2014 Honda Civic Euro Hatchback only has a safety rating of 2 stars. Can you explain the reason for this low rating and advise on your opinion its safety.
Thank you, William Maney

Hi William,
This is from the Rightcar website:
Used imports are not eligible for ANCAP safety ratings, regardless of the vehicle's age. Older NZ new vehicles are also not eligible for ANCAP ratings. There may be a big difference between the safety ratings of an import and a similar New Zealand-new model. See Used import safety ratings for more information.
They explain the rating for used cars here: https://rightcar.govt.nz/used-import-safety-ratings

Hi
I have been looking at purchasing one of these vehicles and have been similarly perplexed by the Right Car rating. These are NZ new vehicles not used imports. I have also discovered that the 2012 ANCAP rating for the same model rates it as 5 stars. Can we now no longer trust these ratings?

Hi there,
The two types of ratings are quite unique and really pose to offer advice when buying a car. One is for cars involved in controlled crash test scenarios and give a report on the crash protection on the whole car, occupants, pedestrians and crash avoidance systems. Whilst the other gives a report of driver protection and impact using real world reported crashes.
