I have a 2005 Toyota Echo which does a relatively low mileage...so when the time schedule comes up for a "service", do I follow the time (12 months) or wait until the mileage is attained which is stipulated on the sticker for the NEXT "service"? Is there a prescribed time I should get the car serviced regardless of mileage?

If the vehicle is doing a very low mileage, it may be a very long time before the mileage is reached. As a generalisation, a minor service check should be done once a year, even if that just means checking levels and carrying out minor adjuctments.
