My Ford Mondeo makes a squealing noise when first starting any idea what this could be?

Sounds like one of the drive belts is slipping. Have you had a belt replaced recently? It may have stretched a little and needs re-tensioning.

Could be the air-con, alternator or power steering belt.

One way to confirm a slipping belt is to pour water over the belts when the squeal is apparant. The squeal should dissapear for a short time.

Another way (if its the airconditiong belt) is to turn the airconditioing off and see if the noise goes away.

Don't get your hands near the belts and don't lean over a running engine wearing a tie or lose clothing for obvious reasons.

If it is a belt problem your garage may be best to carry out the retensioning and don't be surprised if they recommend replacement.
