Hi - what make and models do you recommend for a 7 or 8 seater people mover to use on road only? thinking about a mitsubishi delica - any known faults with these? thanks

The Delica is OK but it is fairly basic and definitely not the safest vehicle around.

The Honda Odyssey has long been the vehicle of choice for many looking for a people mover type vehicle because they are based around a car platform and drive accordingly. They also offer either 7 or 8 seating configurations. The front wheel drive Toyota Previa is another vehicle that has been very popular for similar reasons.

You don’t mention your budget, but I suspect it is a little bit limited and this is where any recommendations made are tinged with caution. Any vehicle with an automatic transmission for example that has travelled over 150K is starting to become high risk. Transmission repairs for these vehicles can be in excess of $4 - $5K and in some cases more than the vehicles total worth.

This is where a well serviced Delica may in fact be better than a high mileage Odyssey with no service history.

All you can really do is get any vehicle you like checked out thoroughly before committing to purchase.

And, if buying privately, make sure you insist on a new Warrant of Fitness is issued (not more than one month old) before agreeing to buy.
