I have a 1996 Landrover Discovery (petrol). Can I use 91 octane (regular) fuel or is it recommended to use 95 octane only.

These vehicles tend to suffer badly from high amounts of carbon build up in the intake side of the engine (valves and combustion chamber). In a worst case scenario this can lead to a loss or low compression on some cylinders.

The higher octane fuels tend to have better carbon cleaning additives which help this situation.

Fuels like BP Ultimate (98) and Shell V Power (95) advertise the fact their fuels help this situation and I tend to believe they do work over a long period of time.

So in summary I would recommend 95 octane or higher.
