I am currently looking at buying a new car from a dealership whereby they will register it in their name for two months and then transfer it over to me on January 1st 2020. This is so they can sell it as an ex demo model even though I would be paying for it and taking possession straight off. Is this common practice and would I be the legal owner even though it is registered to another name?

Hi there,
I've not heard this one before, must be a way of making the purchase price cheaper, as they are "selling" it as EX demo. Proof of ownership is the purchase receipt/sales contract, registration is just for whoever is in charge of the vehicle and needs to receive potential parking tickets, fines, and registration renewal notices.
