I'm a bit confused about the extension that was put in place a while ago to extend WOF's of vehicles that were to expire after Jan 1st. I've heard that they are being extended to October 10th but does this extension apply to WOF's expired after the lock down? Say a WOF expires in June/July does this also get extended to October?

Yes, your interpretation is correct. The emergency rule says the extension applies to any WoF that expires between 1 Jan 2020 and 10 October 2020. So your WoF is deemed to still be legal until 10 October. But the law still requires the car to be in a safe condition to be driven on a road.
