I'm rebuilding my trailer and received a 'brand new' beam axle from a retailer. Both of the stubs are clearly worn, one having corrosion pits and file marks on the bearing seat. I can slide a 0.1mm feeler gauge between the bearing and the shaft. It's also out of round by about 0.14mm. The retailer insists it's all brand new, disregarding very clear photos. He says the bearing will be ok on this shaft. I think it will be unsafe. Who can I send a photo to?

Hi there,
It would be best to consult an engineer about the safety of using a trailer axle in such a condition. They will be able to give a qualified opinion, or advice on the cost of getting it remedied.
