I have recently purchased a 1975 Ford Escort with the registration on hold and am looking to get a new WoF for her.

There are no seat belts in the back and I'm not intirely sure if they were ever fitted.

I heard there are exceptions on seat belt laws if the car is a certain age.

Will I need to get rear belts fitted or is she fit to get a warrent as is?

Because your car is still on the Motor Vehicle Register (on hold ) you only need to get a WOF to get it back on the road.

Vehicles first registered in NZ between 1955 and 1979 do not require seat belts in the rear.

If your intention is to carry passengers in the rear on a regular basis, we would strongly recommend that in the interests of safety you do get belts fitted to the two outer rear seating positions at least.
