I am trying to find out if there is any NZ legislation around private motor vehicle hire. IE hiring a vehicle from one private individual to another. Is it legal to do this in New Zealand?

There is strict legislation regarding rental vehicles. Firstly, the hirer must hold a Transport Services License ( TSL ). This involves sitting the relevant exams for a Rental License. Secondly, the vehicle is subject to a CoF which is a more strict inspection than a WoF.
Also, a private motor vehicle is not insured if used for hire or reward, so specific insurance for rental vehicles is required.
