We have personalised plates and are wanting to sell our vehicle. What do we need to do to get new plates issued, or can we use the old original ones?

You will need to go into a NZ Land Transport Agent such as an AA Centre or Vehicle Testing Station and fill in a Change of Plates form (MR6A).

You will then be issued with a new set of plates and the personalised plates will be automatically placed on hold until you register them against another car.

The cost to do this is very small (less than $20).

The original plates should be handed in as they are no longer valid.
