Petrol and diesel prices as at 27 April 2018

Fuel prices rose on 3 occasions during April (two in the last week), totalling 9 cents per litre. That makes it the highest price for petrol since October 2014, and the highest price for diesel since June 2014. Commodity prices did increase during April – but not by that much. The NZ$ also fell nearly 2c by month end, not including an initial rise earlier in the month. Overall, the landed cost of petrol (allowing for the NZ$) rose just over 4cpl, while diesel rose 5cpl. So the retail price increases are well above the rise in costs, and consequently margins have recovered from the surprising drop during March. At current margins, we would not expect any further increases in retail prices.
