Former NASA engineer hacks his car's horn to make it more friendly

There are few moments when driving that raise the blood pressure more than when you’re on the receiving end of another driver’s aggressive car horn for the most insignificant reason.

For example, maybe you didn’t move off from an intersection within a split second of the lights going green.

Some motorists have their horn push mastered. Two quick chipper toots can be interpreted completely differently to what sounds like a body slam against the button. Sadly it’s the latter that you tend to hear more of in the city with drivers freely flexing their frustrations and not giving a hoot about who they toot.

That’s why this ingenious design from former NASA engineer (and YouTube video creator) Mark Rober is so good. In an attempt to improve communication on the roads, he hacked the honk on his Volkswagen Jetta and come up with three bonus sound effects.

Take a look at his video below and, while we certainly aren’t recommending you hardwire a new honk in to your car’s system, we think he could be on to something.
