The very first bath-house and thermal pool was built in 1884, their water started its journey before this time falling as rain or snow over the Hanmer ranges before sinking deep down through the greywacke being infused with minerals and heated by the earth’s core. The water comes to the surface at over 60 degrees celsius so they need to cool it down before you can relax in their pools, the "Sulphur Pools" are their warmest at 42 degrees.
