AA's Mobile EV Charging Vans

AA Roadservice now provides emergency charge for EVs.

AA is adding help for EV owners with the launch of two mobile EV charging Roadservice vans in Auckland. Fast, smart and reliable charging service powered directly by the AA Battery Service vans.

The vans are fitted with lightweight EV chargers which, in 20-25 minutes, will enable enough charge to drive up to 10 kilometres so AA Members can reach their home or a nearby charging station if they break down on the roadside.

Many EVs can’t be towed normally and need to be transported with all wheels off the ground which usually requires a flatbed vehicle. So, if an electric vehicle runs out of charge in a busy urban location  or even just a narrow road, it can be very problematic.

AA's mobile EV charging service can help stranded EV drivers at the roadside with a power boost, equivalent to a top-up from a fuel can for a petrol or diesel vehicle, to get them on their way again.

The mobile EV charging service is available to AA Members between 7am and 11pm, 365 days of the year at no additional cost.

These vans will raise the total fleet number to three, joining the existing Wellington mobile EV charger van which launched in 2020. A fourth van will be introduced to Christchurch later in 2022.

The AA also provides AA EV Charge Finder, a platform built in collaboration with the NZ Transport Agency and other industry partners, which collects live information from safe and monitored charge points across the country to help drivers plan their journeys.

For EV charger assistance Wellington and Auckland based AA Members can call 0800 500 222, or request assistance via the AA Roadservice app.
