Trip Tracker is a new feature in the AA app that provides a view of your journey's costs, fuel or energy usage, and Co₂ emissions. Whether you drive a petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric vehicle, get the insights you need to make informed decisions.
What’s in your trip summary
Your Trip Tracker summary includes:
Estimated fuel costs
Based on your vehicle’s fuel consumption and the price per litre you enter - or the default national average if left blank.
Travel distance
Calculated using the shortest route returned by Google Maps. Ferry crossings and alternative routes are not included.
CO₂ emissions
Estimated using NZTA averages via InfoAgent, based on your vehicle’s registration.
Electricity usage & cost (EVs)
For supported EVs, we estimate kWh usage using data from https://evdb.nz and apply your entered price - or a default average.
Road user charges (RUC)
If applicable, RUC is calculated using NZTA averages via InfoAgent.

Hybrid vehicles can enter either fuel or kWh price, but only one will be used for calculations.
Only approx. top 50 EVs are supported for electric consumption estimates.
Vehicles made before 2005 may lack sufficient data for trip cost calculations.
One-way trips only.
Based on typical travel conditions - not real-time.
All figures are estimates; actual costs may vary.
