The AA app terms of use

Welcome

Please read the following terms (Terms) carefully – downloading or using the mobile app (App) means you agree to them.

The New Zealand Automobile Association Incorporated (AA) owns the app. References to “we”, “our” or “us” means the AA.

Use of this App

You must accept these Terms before using the App. We may update them from time to time and will notify you of changes when you next log in.

Distributors such as the Apple App Store or Google Play Store may also impose their own terms and conditions if you download the App through them.

By using the App, you confirm that you have full power and capacity to agree to these Terms, perform your obligations under them, and are the authorised user of the device providing access to the App.

Other AA terms and conditions

These Terms apply alongside any other AA product or service terms you may hold, including your AA membership. You may have separate obligations under those agreements, so please ensure you are familiar with all applicable terms. Some App features may have additional terms. If there is a conflict between these Terms and any additional ones, the additional terms will apply.

Personal information

Please read our Privacy Statement carefully. It governs the use of any personal information you provide to us as part of using the App.

Compatible devices

The App works on most devices running iOS 16 or later, and Android 9 or later. We may stop supporting certain versions of the App or specific devices at any time, which may affect your ability to use the App on those devices. For security reasons, the App is only available on devices that meet our access requirements.

Updates and availability

We may update, change, or discontinue parts or all of the App at any time. Critical updates may be required to continue using the App. The App may be unavailable during maintenance or due to errors which we may fix without notice.

Feature-specific limitations and assumptions

We aim to keep App content accurate and up to date, but it may not always be correct and you should not rely on the App.

Roadservice GPS tracking may be imprecise due to factors such as signal availability or third-party service interruptions.

Some features such as journey planning and vehicle calculations use third-party data and internal estimates, and have limitations, for example, only showing the shortest route, excluding ferry crossings, or using average vehicle data. For more details, see the separate FAQ section. Using these features means you accept their limitations.

Fair and appropriate use

The App is for personal use only and must not be used for commercial gain. We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access if we consider your use unreasonable or likely to affect the App’s performance.

You must not use the App—or allow others to use it—for anything dishonest, illegal, or misleading. All information you enter must be accurate and used lawfully. If someone uses the App on your behalf, their actions will be treated as your own.

Security

You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and ensuring your personal information is up to date.

The App does not enforce local device authentication (like PINs or biometrics), so if someone gains access to an unlocked device, they may be able to view your information.  We recommend keeping your device secure and locked when not in use.

Do not share your account. If someone else accesses your personal information, it could lead to identity theft. If you suspect someone else knows your login details or unauthorised access, contact us immediately.

Limitation of our liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable to you for any direct or indirect costs, losses, damages or other liabilities whatsoever resulting from your use of the App, your failure to comply with these Terms, or any delay or loss of access to the App.

We are not responsible for verifying any information you provide when you update your details through the App.

Third-Party services

Some App features, like Google Maps, rely on third-party software. Third parties may process your data independently of AA. By using the App, you agree to their terms of use and privacy policies. The App may also include links to third-party websites or content. AA is not responsible for those resources and does not endorse any content, products, services or materials available through them.

Intellectual property

The designs, images, logos, and content of the App are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by copyright, trademarks and other intellectual property rights. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, republish, display, post or transmit any part of this App.

You do not have any rights to our intellectual property, or that of our licensors, except the limited right to use the App as described in these Terms.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us on demand for all liabilities, costs, expenses, damages and losses (including any direct or indirect consequential losses, loss of profit, loss of reputation and all interest, penalties and legal and other reasonable professional costs and expenses) suffered or incurred by us arising out of or in connection with your breach of these Terms.

Termination of use

We may suspend, restrict, or block your access to the services in the App at any time and for any reason. If this happens and you believe it to be an error or misunderstanding, please get in touch.

There is no obligation for you to continue using the App and you can stop at any time. Simply uninstall the App from your device. You’ll still be able to access your records online or by contacting us

Governing Law

These Terms, and any matters or disputes concerning the content and use of the App are exclusively governed by New Zealand law and will be dealt with under the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
