From fossils to fashions, the South Canterbury Museum is a great place to catch up with South Canterbury's past. Permanent displays include local geology, wildlife, Maori history, European settlement and recent social history. See a full-size model of Richard Pearse's plane - believed to have flown before the Wright Brothers. A changing temporary exhibition programme brings a wide variety of topics and shows. Watch fascinating local history audiovisual presentations in the Museum's Heritage Theatre. An archives research area, open afternoons, provides access to rich collections of information, images, documents and local publications. ??The Museum is part of the Timaru District Council.
