Brian Gibbons has been the Chief Executive of the New Zealand Automobile Association since 1990, when the Association was formed.
Since taking on the role of CEO, Brian has overseen the growth of the Association in terms of Membership, which now stands at more than 1.6 million. It's a Membership that represents 54 percent of licensed New Zealand drivers, with a household reach of one out of two.
Under Brian's leadership, the NZAA has grown in financial strength and service reach through the development of commercial services – the likes of AA Insurance, AA Life, AA Batteries, MARAC Insurance Services, to name but a few.
In terms of each of the subsidiary commercial companies and business partnerships, Brian holds Board Directorship and, in many cases, Chairs those operations.
In 2009, Brian was appointed as the Deputy President for FIA Automobile Mobility & Tourism, a position that sees him take a leadership role in a world-wide capacity, appreciative that FIA has a global Membership of over 100 million individual club members.
Prior to 1990, Brian was the General Manager of AA Central, one of the 15 independent AA Clubs in New Zealand and was charged with the task of encouraging those Clubs to merge in a single organisation, a task that was achieved in 1990.
Brian is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA/BCA), a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Management, and is a Justice of the Peace.
