Does my Life Cover or Funeral Cover policy cover COVID-19?
The most important thing for you to know is Life Cover and Funeral from AA Life will continue to cover death, as a result of illness or injury - including COVID-19.
Please just remember that the claims process will still apply and the claim criteria still need to be met, taking into account any special terms and conditions that may have been applied to your individual policy when you took out your cover.
If I take out cover with AA Life, will I be covered for COVID-19?
If you apply and are accepted for Life Cover or Funeral Cover with AA Life, you will be covered for death as a result of COVID-19, subject to policy terms and conditions, including any special terms and conditions that may be applied to your individual policy when you apply.
Please just remember that the claims process would still apply as normal where the claim criteria still need to be met.
What if I have recently travelled overseas, or are intending to in the near future?
For Life Cover policies taken out before August 2019
Your AA Life policy includes a standard exclusion for death that occurs as a direct or indirect result of you being in a country (or region) to which the New Zealand Government has advised against travel with an 'Avoid non-essential travel' or 'Do not travel' warning. This exclusion may apply if your death (from COVID-19 or any other condition) was a result of being in one of these countries. Please refer to the policy wording or call 0800 808 234 for further details.
For Life Cover policies taken out after August 2019
A travel exclusion may have been applied to your policy if you indicated future travel plans when you applied.
This exclusion is for claims arising from events that occur at a time when you were in a country (or region) where the New Zealand Government has advised against travel with an 'Avoid non-essential travel' or 'Do not travel' warning. This exclusion may apply if you contract COVID-19 while visiting one of these countries, even if death does not occur in one of those countries. Please refer to the policy wording for further details.
Please note that as of 19 March 2020, the New Zealand Government is advising New Zealanders to not travel overseas, regardless of the destination.
