Domestic Travel Insurance

Cover for your NZ adventures

Great Kiwi adventures deserve insuring too. Whether you’re hitting the road with a caravan in tow or attending that family reunion, don’t forget to look at your cover options.

We’ve kept things simple, with two plans to choose from. The AA Domestic Travel Insurance Comprehensive plan provides our highest level of protection against unexpected expenses like rental vehicle excess, flight cancellation fees and stolen or damaged baggage that could otherwise leave you out of pocket. There’s also an option to select a no excess plan, and to apply for pre-existing medical conditions cover. Plus, there’s cover for epidemics and pandemics (like COVID-19) in some cases^.

There is also a lower premium Cancellation Only plan that covers a situation where you’re forced to reschedule or cancel your trip before you go.

No matter which plan you choose, you’ll find the application process is quick and simple, so you can get back to much more exciting things – like booking that winery lunch, or bikes for a cycle trip.

All plans include selected cover for epidemic and pandemic diseases, like COVID-19 in some situations:

    • If you're diagnosed with the disease and you can't go on your trip or have to go home early
    • If you’re quarantined or put into self-isolation by the NZ Government if you’ve been exposed to the disease

For all of these benefits, please make sure you read the Policy Wording to understand the benefit limits, terms or exclusions that may apply.

^The policy still has a general exclusion for epidemics and pandemics, and it does not cover disinclination to travel due to fear or change of mind. Cover is only provided if you have not commenced your journey against the New Zealand Government’s advice not to travel. There is no cover for lockdowns, changes in government alert levels, quarantine or mandatory isolation applying to a population or part of a population. The cover applies where the amount isn’t covered by the public health system, ACC, and personal health insurance. Please refer to the Policy Wording for full details.
